Installing Software Using Software Center for Windows

This will walk end users through the process of installing something from the Software Center for Windows.

Objective

If you have an University-managed endpoint (computer), you can use the Software Center in Windows to install and manage software on your machine.

  • Users with a University-managed endpoint

Before You Begin

This procedure is only for Windows devices. To install software on a Mac OS device, please use the Self Service Application.

You must be using a University-managed computer.

Steps

  1. Click the Start button in the bottom left (on windows 10) or the left/center (Windows 11).

  2. Type in Software Center and press Enter or click on the Software Center Icon.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  3. A list of software available for your device is displayed.

  4. Find the software you wish to install, or search for it using the search box in the top right corner of the window.

  5. Click on the software you wish to install.

  6. Click the Install button.

  7. No admin rights are necessary to install anything from the software center, There is also no charge to you or your department for anything visible to you by default.

  8. If you wish to check if something is already installed click on Installation Status on the left side

  9. If you feel like something should show up for you but is not in your list A basic troubleshooting step is to click on Options on the left side
  10. Click the dropdown arrow on the Computer maintenance dropdown.
  11. Click on the large Sync Policy buttonUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  12. This will have the client reach out to the backend and try and refresh its data.
