Known Issue - PCs connected through Cisco VoIP Phones May Lose Wired Network

Computers connected to the campus network via a wired (ethernet) cable through a Cisco VoIP telephone's pass-through connection may experience connectivity issues.

Description of Issue

Computers connected to the campus network via a wired (ethernet) cable through a Cisco VoIP telephone's pass-through connection may experience connectivity issues. This issue is not widespread but it is affecting several users on the UNK, UNL and, UNO campuses. The issue has been observed since at least June, 2024.

Resolution / Next Steps

Current workarounds for affected devices are bypassing the phone and directly connecting a device to a dedicated wall jack (data port), or using Wi-Fi instead if available.

ITS has escalated this issue with both our network and telephony hardware manufacturers in pursuit of a resolution.
