Microsoft has introduced a new feature that allows users to change their working time zone separately from their overall account time zone. Below are the steps to adjust and set these to the same or separately.

Users

All faculty, staff and students

Steps

  1. Login to the Outlook Web App at https://outlook.office.com/mail/
  2. Click the Settings/Gear option in the top right corner and the settings window will pop up.
    • A red arrow pointing to the settings icon in the top right of outlook
  3. On the left go under the General and then choose Language and Time.
  4. Toggle the option and turn on Use my Microsoft 365 settings.
    • Showing a toggle setting for turning on "Use my Microsoft 365 settings"
  5. On the same screen, click on the Change option to verify and update your account and meeting hours time zone.
    • A red arrow pointing at the option to change the timezone
  6. Under the Calendar->View settings you will see if your calendar time zone is different from your meeting hours time zone. In the example below, my calendar time zone is set to Central Time but the meeting hours time zone is set to Pacific Time. There is a message asking me if I want to update them to be the same.
    • Showing the entire window where the sub headings of Calendar then View are selected. Scrolling down to the actual timezone selection option.
  7. In this case, you can click on the Yes, update to set everything to Central Time. If you do not see the Yes, update option or the message that those time zones are different, the best action is reset/update it back to your correct time zone. Do this by clicking the drop down box and changing your time zone completely, clicking Save, and then changing it back and you will get the message to update your meeting hours time zone. In this example, we are changing it to Hawaii time zone and then back to Central and then choosing the Yes, update.
    • Showing the area in settings where you have the option to select your timezone, as well as the option to have outlook try and guess which timezone you are currently in to keep the calendar up to date.
  8. After this is complete, verify your meeting hours time zone is set correctly by going to the Calendar->Work hours and location section.
    • An image with red highlights around the correct area to navigate to. Calendar than Settings then you can verify your work hours are set correctly as well as the timezone outlook thinks you are in.
