Description of Error
When attempting to PXE boot you may encounter an error where immediately after your computer communicates with the PXE server to attempt to boot you will receive the error message
Windows Deployment Services Encountered an error:
Error Code: 0xc0000272
This is caused by a windows certificate error surrounding a change in the secure boot certificates from Microsoft.
Resolution / Next Steps
- Within the BIOS, change Secure Boot Mode to Audit Mode. Save the changes and restart.
- PXE boot should now work. Once the SCCM imaging environment loads (where It asks for the password), shut down the computer.
- Within the BIOS, change Secure Boot Mode to Deployed Mode. Save the changes and restart.
- PXE should continue to work. At this point, the device can be imaged as usual.
Dell Computers
The option for Audit Mode is burred under the Boot Configuration > Secure Boot Mode.
If you don't see the option, please verify that you have the Advanced Mode in the top left corner of the bios turned on.
Lenovo Computers
For lenovo devices the option is under the Security tab on the left-hand side.
It is sometimes called Setup Mode on newer models.
Then under the secure boot sub menu there will be an option to select Audit Mode.
