Duo - Unable to Access Services - Enter Your Bypass Code

Overview/Background

This article is meant to assist anyone who is presented with "Enter your bypass code" as the only two-factor option when authenticating to a service.

Issue Description

The user attempts to access a service and after providing their username and password is presented with a Duo prompt with the title, "Enter your bypass code". The user does not have a bypass code to use and there are no alternative methods available.

Troubleshooting

This issue occurs when users begin Duo Mobile device enrollment but quit before downloading and installing the Duo Mobile app.

Resolution

To fix this issue, please complete Duo Mobile device enrollment.

  1. Login to Self Service at https://trueyou.nebraska.edu using the TrueYou SSO option.
  2. When accessing Self Service, you will be allowed to use telephony two-factor methods, such as phone call or SMS text messaging.
  3. Once login is successful, select "Manage TrueYou Two-Factor Devices".
  4. Authenticate to Duo using phone call or SMS text messaging.
  5. Finish enrollment by download the Duo Mobile app to your device and add your Duo account.
