Microsoft Copilot is a suite of generative and agentic Artificial Intelligence, AI, applications that provide secure access to AI tools designed to enhance productivity.
Getting Started
At the University of Nebraska, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Studio are available for use by faculty, staff and students. Microsoft 365 Copilot is one of the recommended tools for using generative AI within the NU System.
Copilot Chat: An everyday AI companion, powered by GPT-4o and Bing Search. The version included with our Microsoft 365 A5 licenses includes Enterprise Data Protection, ensuring that any data input stays within the bounds of our Microsoft 365 tenant and is not used to train the public models. Copilot Chat has no access to your Microsoft Graph data (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.) and will only use publicly available information on the web and information given in prompts. Users will gain access to Copilot Chat as their accounts are transitioned as part of the Future Ready Cloud Collaboration Workspace project. To get started, you can navigate to the Microsoft 365 login page and authenticate using your University login.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: An AI companion that combines the power of large language models with the NU System's own protected data within the flow of work by working alongside Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Microsoft 365 Copilot is an optional service, with additional licensing costs, that is not bundled into our Microsoft 365 A5 licenses. Microsoft 365 Copilot also incorporates Enterprise Data Protection and grants access to Copilot Studio. NU-ITS is currently offering access to Microsoft 365 Copilot as a pilot to evaluate the viability and cost-effectiveness within the NU System.

Copilot Studio: Build custom AI agents or enhance Microsoft 365 Copilot. Turn conversation into action by using connectors, workflows, custom topics, and AI prompts. Leverage more than 1,500 prebuilt data connectors across Microsoft and non-Microsoft data sources to connect services that make your agents more efficient, as well as the ability to build autonomous agents that operate independently on your behalf.

Eligibility
Students, faculty and staff are eligible for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.
Faculty and Staff are eligible for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot Studio. Students may be eligble if sponsored by a department due to cost.
Pricing
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is included with our Microsoft 365 A5 license which includes Enterprise Data Protection. To begin using, navigate to Microsoft 365 login page and login using your University credentials.

Microsoft Copilot Studio is included with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. For broader deployment or use without a license, please contact NU-ITS for an estimate.
Support
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat browser integration is only officially supported in Microsoft Edge. You can, however, use the browser based version on any supported web browser.
