Most Common Issues for Not Seeing Course Evaluation Dashboard -- and Solutions

In taking course evaluations (for students), and acquiring course evaluation reports (for instructors and administrators), three issues are the most common in not being able to see your Watermark Course Evaluations & Surveys (CES) dashboard:

  1. error messages
  2. latency
  3. your course is not in CES

1. If you receive either of these error messages (or similar):

Error alerting user the page isn't working Known Errors: Stale Request, NoSuchFlowExecutionException, Session in Invalid State | IT@UMN | The people behind the technology

It usually means there is a cross-site tracking issue, where one website (your Canvas page) is pulling data from another website (the CES dashboard) into a window.
The errors happen most often on Macs using the Safari browser, but can appear on other browsers as well.
Solutions:

  • If you are using Safari, go to this site:
    https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/prevent-cross-site-tracking-sfri40732/mac
and make sure that the box is unchecked in this setting.

  • If you are not using Safari or that setting doesn't work, try another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).

  • Or, try the direct access link that was e-mailed to you with the subject line "Course Evaluations Are Open!" That link will allow you to bypass Canvas and get to your evaluations. That e-mail arrives about a month before deployment for instructor's, and on the day of deployment for students. If you can't find the e-mail, let us know and we'll send another.

2. Latency

Sometimes factors occur for the connection between CES and Canvas to be slow. Busy servers when many people are in the system near the end of the semester is one of the main factors. If the Student Course Evaluations or Instructor Course Evaluations link in your Canvas course left navigation menu doesn't appear, just wait. If there is latency, it should only last 3 minutes at the most. If you don't see it in 3 minutes, try another browser. If that doesn't help, contact us.

3. Your course is not in the CES system

If you have gone through the first two above and still don't see your CES dashboard, it's likely not in the system. The two main reasons are 1) we missed importing it or 2) it was on the list of courses not to be evaluated. Contact us immediately for resolution.
