UNL to Nebraska Azure Subscription Transfer

Description

Prior to the Future Ready Workspace project, individuals could set up an Azure account using their @unl.edu or @huskers.unl.edu email address. The Azure account was associated with the UNL Microsoft tenant / domain. Once the UNL domain was decommissioned (January 2026) users lost access to their UNL Azure account. The steps below detail how to transfer data from an old UNL Azure account to the new Nebraska Directory. 

Users

UNL users who had an Azure account associated with their @unl.edu or @huskers.unl.edu email address prior to January 2026 and would like to transfer data from an old UNL Azure account to the new Nebraska Directory. 

Before You Begin

  1. Complete this Microsoft Azure Request form to initiate the transfer of your UNL Azure subscription to the new Nebraska Azure instance. 
  2. Within 4-6 hours of submitting the form, you will receive a link for guest access back into the UNL instance to retrieve your data then you may proceed to steps below.

Steps

Once you have guest access back into the UNL instance:

  1. Login to Azure portal with your uofnelincoln.onmicrosoft.com account
  2. Go to Subscriptions. 
  3. One the Subscription Overview page, click the Change Directory button. 
  4. Select the University of Nebraska Directory, check the box and click Change. 
    Highlights the change directory pathway and emphasizes the From UNL to Nebraska directory.
     
  5. Wait approximately 10-30 minutes for the process to complete. 
  6. Click the gear in the upper right corner and switch to the University of Nebraska directory. 
  7. Go to Subscriptions and the transferred subscription should be listed in the new directory

  8. Reapply permissions to valid @nebraska.edu accounts.
