An “account rename” is a service offered by the University of Nebraska that allows for your username and email address to be renamed due to a name change. Each campus has their own algorithm for determining the format of your username which will be followed to ensure uniqueness across all our campuses.
Prior to submitting a request for an account rename, please look over the following points to ensure you are comfortable continuing at this time.
- Account renames will only be performed to accommodate a name change.
- Custom usernames are not supported. All usernames are system-generated to ensure uniqueness systemwide.
- Account renames can cause service disruption. There may be a period of up to 24 hours where you cannot log in to various campus services. This includes services such as Canvas, email, and Zoom.
- If you have shared OneDrive files with others the links will no longer work and you will need to re-share the files after the rename is complete.
- Once your account is renamed, you will no longer be able to receive emails sent to your current address. To ensure important emails are not missed, update services and contacts with your new email address
Additionally, account renames require your name to be updated in our Identity Management system so if you have not already, please do so.
If you are a student, you will update your name in your campus portal (MavLINK, MyBlue, or MyRed). If you are staff, you will update your name in Firefly. Instructions on how to update your name in each system can be found here.
