Steps

. There are two methods to add printers:

  1. Manually add printers.
  2. Import printers.

Following are the instructions for how to add a TCP / IP Printer manually. For details on how to import printers, see Import Microsoft Printers. For printer scanning utilities, see Network Scanner, or Server Scanner.

Requirements

Before you manually create a printer you need the following:

  • Install the Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) Client on your workstation. For more details, see Install the Client & Web Extension.
  • For Windows, the printer driver INF files. You can download the driver package with the INF file from the printer manufacturer website.
  • For Mac, have the printer drivers already installed in your machine.

Create a Printer

To create a new printer manually use the following process:

  1. Select TCP / IP Printer by using one of the methods described.
  2. Enter the printer details in the Add TCP / IP Printer modal.
  3. Upload the print driver.

1. Select the TCP / IP Printer Option

  • Use the New button from the top of the tree structure, or
  • Use the New option from the context menu.

New Button

  1. Select the folder where you want to create the printer.
  2. Select the New button from the top of the tree structure.
  3. Select the TCP / IP Printer option.

Context Menu

  1. Select the folder where you want to create the printer.
  2. Right-click on the folder and select New from the context menu.
  3. Select the TCP / IP Printer option.

2. Enter Printer Details

  1. In the Add TCP / IP Printer modal complete the following:
    1. Printer Name — enter the name for the printer.
    2. Location — you can enter a description of where the printer is located. This is an optional step.
    3. IP Address or Hostname — enter the IP address or the hostname for the printer.
    4. Comment — enter any additional comments about the printer. This step is optional.
    5. Make Pull Printer — select this option to make the printer a pull-print queue to hold print jobs. For more details, see Pull Print.

3. Add or Select a Print Driver

The lower section of the Add TCP / IP Printer modal shows operating systems, each with the following options:

  • Upload driver.
  • Option to select an existing driver using the drop-down.

If the driver already exists, use the drop-down to select it from the list and select Add.

Upload a Print Driver

  1. Under the appropriate operating system, select the Upload Driver button.
  2. In the Choose Driver tab of the Choose a driver window, select Browse.
  3. Navigate to the INF file location and select the file.

  1. Select Next on the bottom-right.
  2. Check the box next to the operating system(s) you plan to support.
  3. Select Upload.

Depending on the internet connection speed and the size of the driver, the upload may take some time.

  1. When the print driver displays in the drop-down field, select Add.

Move Printers

Three methods of moving printer objects to different folders within the tree structure exist.

  • Move button.
  • Right-click on the printer (Context Menu).
  • Click and Drag.
    • While dragging an object, hover over a parent folder to automatically open any subfolders.

The steps below guide you through moving a printer object to a new location using the Move button at the top of the tree structure.

  1. Select the printer object in the tree structure.
  2. Select the Move button at the top of the tree structure.

  1. Use the Browse modal to select the desired folder location.
  2. Select Move in the Browse modal.

The printer object moves to the new location in the tree structure.

Copy Printers

The following steps guide you through copying a printer object using the Copy button at the top of the tree structure. Right-clicking the printer object brings up the Context Menu, which also contains the Copy option.

  1. Select the printer object in the tree structure.
  2. Select the Copy button at the top of the tree structure.

  1. Adjust the printer name in the Copy TCP/IP Printer modal, otherwise (Copy) will append to the new printer name.
  2. Adjust the IP Address or Hostname as needed.
  3. Selecting Copy deployment assignments copies the printer deployments of the original printer.
  4. Select Copy.

The copied printer displays in the same folder as the original.

Renaming Printers

The following steps guide you through renaming a printer object using the printer's General tab. Right-clicking the printer object brings up the Context Menu, which also contains the Rename option.

  1. Select the printer object in the tree structure.
  2. The General tab displays by default.
  3. In the Printer Name field, update the name.
  4. Select Save

Delete Printers

The following steps guide you through copying a printer object using the Delete button at the top of the tree structure. Right-clicking the printer object brings up the Context Menu, which also contains the Delete option.

  1. Select the printer object in the tree structure.
  2. Select the Delete button at the top of the tree structure.

  1. Type Delete into the Delete Confirm modal.
  2. Select Delete.

This removes the printer object from the Admin Console.
