Overview/Background
The Future Ready Cloud Collaboration project will impact Teams content, since the location and user IDs (UPNs) are changing.
Teams
- Teams will be migrated on or near the date the dept that owns the Team is migrated.
- Team Owners and Members will be migrated, but may take a while to populate as Microsoft syncs memberships between groups and Teams.
- Users will need to be re-added to Teams and private channels as they are migrated.
- All standard, private and shared channels will be migrated.
- Team pictures will be migrated.
- Only the past 30 Teams channel chats will be migrated. No private channel or chat content will be migrated. If you need to retain content from those channels/chats, it is recommended to copy and paste the content into a Word document and save it prior to your migration date.
- After migration, a one year retention policy will be implemented in private and Teams channel chats. This policy will be reevaluated at the completion of the Future Ready project.
Team Channels
- Only the last 30 days of messages in each chain will be migrated.
- Individual messages larger than 4MB will not migrate. The chat will migrate without the large messages.
- Emojis in messages will be migrated, but reaction emojis will not.
Team Channel Content
- Content from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and List tab applications linked to files in the same channel will be migrated.
- Whiteboard tabs are migrated if the Whiteboard files are stored in the OneDrive of the Whiteboard creator.
- Attachments (images, media files and documents) will be migrated as links only.
- Text formatting will be retained.
- The Inbox folder and Calendar from the group mailbox associated with a team will be migrated.
- Lists must be created in the same SharePoint site used by the team or private channel.
- OneNote files will be migrated, but the OneNote tab will not be created.
- A OneDrive library must be created and associated with a team in the same SharePoint site.
- Planner buckets, tasks and comments are migrated, but the Planner tab will not be created. When migrating Planner tasks, task assignees will receive a notification after migration.
- PowerPlatform features for Teams (Power Apps, Power Automate) will not be migrated.
Chats
- Images, media files and documents in group chats are stored in your OneDrive folder.
- Files that are linked to private chats and meetings are migrated but do not display in the Files/Shared tab. Links to files will break
- Private one-to-one chats initiated by an external user cannot be migrated.
- Chat application tabs (any tab other than Chat) cannot be migrated.

- Self-chat (messages you send to yourself) will not be migrated.
Meetings
- Meeting conversations are migrated as private chats but cannot be inserted into the original Teams meeting.
- Meeting notes in private meetings are not migrated.
- Recordings of scheduled meetings in a team channel that are stored in SharePoint or OneDrive are migrated.
- Recordings of meetings in group chats, one-on-one chats or "Meet now" meetings will not be migrated. The recording file will be stored in the chat organizer's OneDrive account.
- Meeting recordings that are stored in Stream cannot be migrated. A link to the recording in the team channel will be retained.
