Registering a device on the NU-IoT (Internet of Things) Network

Objective

Connect your IoT devices, such as gaming consoles, printers, and wireless streaming hardware, to the NU-IoT wireless network through the IoT Registration process.

Users

  • Student
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Affiliates
  • Others with a University of Nebraska email account.

Before You Begin

Before you can connect a device to the IoT Network you need to know the MAC Address of the Device. If you're unsure how to find the MAC address for your IoT device, you can follow the provided link to find the MAC address for common devices.

Steps for Registering an IoT Device

  • While on a campus network, open the IoT Registration portal in your default web browser.
  • In the IoT Registration portal, use your Campus Identity for authentication. Your username should include the campus domain, such as jdoe2@nebraska.edu, @unk.edu, @unl.edu, @unomaha.edu.
  • Within the IoT Registration portal, you can add or manage existing IoT devices. Each device will receive a unique password to authenticate on the NU-IoT wireless SSID.
  • In the IoT Registration portal, complete the Create Device form with the required information:
    • MAC address of your IoT device
    • Unique device name for identification
    • Email account to receive information about the request
    • Choose whether you want your credentials sent to your email or text
      • If you choose Text Message you will be asked to enter your phone number
    • Choose whether or not you want to Enable AirGroup
  • Your IoT credentials will be sent to you via email, text message, or both. If you select text message or both options, you'll need to provide your mobile phone number and select your mobile carrier.
